Fact of the Week: Children Will Give You Ulcers

I had planned on this past Monday being Tawny Taylor day here on the blog. However, my youngest child had different plans for me, that also included scaring 20 years off my life.
After church this past Sunday, my husband goes to work and me and the girls come home, change clothes and go to my sister’s house to visit for a while. My niece (sister’s daughter) and her kids were there (she has an 8 year old and a 1 year old) and it was a BEAUTIFUL day…warm, breezy….just beautiful.
My niece’s oldest daughter has a 4 wheeler (one of those small ones) and my 7 year old and her started riding it around in the yard. Now, it’s no secret that I despise hate 4 wheelers…of any size. My husband always usually tells me that I can be over-protective. I agree, I can, but I figure better safe than sorry. :shrug I just wish I had stuck to that on Sunday. :sigh When she asked me if she could ride, I thought “Ok, I don’t want to keep her from having fun, so I’ll just let her ride for a little bit.”
Anyway…I’m sitting there on the porch talking to my niece and I turn to check on the girls. They were coming around the swimming pool, I turn back around and say to my niece, “I hate those things”. As soon as those words leave my mouth, I turn back around and my daughter is sitting on the ground holding her arm and my niece’s daughter is standing by her, bent over talking to her. My niece’s DD then raises up, starts jumping up and down and yells at me, “OH MY GOD, SISSY!!!” (she calls me Sissy). I take off running and when I get to her, I knew it was broke. My husband said later, “Maybe it’s dislocated.” I kept looking at it and thought, “Nope, it’s sooooo broke.”
We get her to the ER and they x-ray her arm. Sure enough…it’s broke. It’s a pretty bad and with that type of break and her age…they want to send her to Memphis to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. I ride in the ambulance with her (Le Bonheur is almost 2 hours away from us) and as soon as we arrive, they are waiting and ready for her. We sign paperwork real quick, go to the Bunny Room with her so she can pick out a prize before surgery and then they give her a little pre-op sedative because she was scared of having surgery. As soon as they give her that…off to surgery they go with my baby girl.
She’s in a room in an hour and a half, with her “hard splint” and moody as hell. LOL We got to go home Monday night and she was so happy about that. Tuesday night and Wednesday night were awful…and that’s putting it mildly. The pain medicine helped with the pain and also helped put her in a FOUL mood. :sigh Yesterday we had to take her for a check-up x-ray to see if it is healing like it should. The doctor said everything looks good and he wants to see her back in his office June 12th to get the pins out (2 of them). Her thumb, index and middle fingers are numb and he said that was normal with that kind of break. He said the bone didn’t like much coming through the skin. When we first got to the ER, her pulse in that arm was very faint, but thankfully, as soon as they set the bone back and put the pins in…the pulse picked back up.
Bless her little heart. She’s been in pain and she’s been miserable and I feel so helpless.
But she’s been SUCH a trooper through all of this. She’s cried…sure (DUH!). But “fit-throwing-type-of-crying”? Nope. We have found out with this that she has a high pain tolerance.
She sure as hell didn’t get it from me! She is my hero.

Sweetie…you know I’m praying for you all. One day I am going to meet this amazing daughter of yours. I didn’t realize when we were talking on the phone that she had to have pins. That is so HARD. It sounds to me like you’ve been a trouper through all of this too, ma’am.
Hugs to you all,
Lucy

I know you are and we truly appreciate it. I don’t know about me being a trooper…I can definitely learn a few things from this kid.
*Hugs* to you, dear!
