Lucy Monroe Interview

First, I’d like to congratulate you on your upcoming release, Deal With This. Can you tell us a little about this book?

Absolutely…I’m really excited about the story and the characters. All of them. A couple of the secondary characters stole my heart and I’m guessing when people read the book, they’ll figure out who pretty easily. It’s a great story, if I do say so. LOL Really steamy, kinda funny and a high-tech espionage element that was rockin’ to research and write.

For those that are new to your books…How long have you been writing and what was your first published book?

I’ve been writing for 14 years. My first published book - The Greek Tycoon’s Ultimatum - came out in September of 2003 and since then I’ve sold about 40 books to four publishers.

Do you plot out your stories first or do you let the characters lead you?

It goes both ways, but I’m by far more a pantser than a plotter anymore. I started out plotting, but figured out when I deviated from the script by scene two I might be wasting my time. When I *do* plot now, I find that I don’t deviate nearly as much - it’s as if I’ve got a way stronger sense of where every story is going.

Of all your published books, do you have a favorite? If so, which one and why?

I’ve had several favorites at different times. Usually the ones with really wounded heroes. Last night we went to see Disney Princesses on Ice and I told my mom that my favorite hero is The Beast and she thought that was nuts until I explained it was because he was so flawed and wounded. She’s read almost all of my books (it’s harder for her since a massive stroke four years ago) and she nodded her head and said, “Yes, I guess that *does* make sense.” LOL

Of all your published books, do you have a least favorite? If so, which one and why?

Oooh…that’s like asking which of my kids I’m less inclined to like. Being teens, they’re all difficult at one time or another, but I still love ‘em. Some books were harder to write…or revise for my editors than others, but I wouldn’t classify any as my “least favorite”. Though some took me longer to read in published form than other, I found once I did that I loved them all. It’s kind of funny…because there have been a couple I really expected not to connect with and discovered that yep, I was in fact the author and I could see my heart as clearly in them as any of the others.

What are you currently working on?

I’m just finishing up a novella for Harlequin. It’s a gift to readers of sorts as so many have asked for Phoebe and Spiros’ story (from The Billionaire’s Pregnant Mistress) and I’m finally writing it. I’ll be working on my next Goddard Project book as I finish up 2007 and go into the new year.

When you’re not writing, what genre do you enjoy reading and who are some of your favorite authors?

I love to read. Romance the most, but mystery, a little sci-fi and some westerns too. My favorite authors are too numerous to name them all, but I’ll mention a few: Kate Davies, Lori Foster, Julie Garwood, Christine Feehan, Teresa Madeiros, Agatha Christie, Meg Chittenden, Louis L’Amour, Ann McCaffrey, Louisa May Alcott and Lucy Maude Montgomery.

Favorites…

Favorite Season?

All of them. I live in Oregon where we get the distinct seasons and I love them all for different reasons. Summer for the sunshine and warmth and having my kids out of school. Fall for the changing colors and the crisp air. Winter for Christmas and sometimes snow and getting to wear sweaters. And spring for the flowers, the unexpected warm days and the smell of newly cut grass.

Morning person or night owl?

Both…depends on where my body chemistry is at. I try to be cheerful *whenever* I’m awake.

Favorite color?

Yellow.

Fun Questions…

If you were a superhero, what would your super power be?

To make people happy wth themselves and able to find joy in life despite circumstances. Hey…you asked.

If you could build your own robot, what would it do?

This is easy…he’d be a butler/chauffer. Answer the door, the phone and drive me everywhere. Someday…

If you had to smell like one thing for the rest of your life, what scent would you pick?

Vanilla.

Lucy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule and doing this interview with me!

Thank you, hon! It’s been great.

Hugs to all,
Lucy

Good interview. Lucy…I don’t buy books for their covers but I might have to make an exception with “Deal With This.” Just kidding. I’m already a fan and the last book I read of yours was “Moon Awakening”, which I thought was excellent. Best….Nancy Bristow

    Hi Lucy! Great interview!

I am so happy that you are writing Phoebe’s and Spiro’s story!! I had no idea you were going to write it. I always thought about them and how I would like to know more of their story (The Billionaire’s Pregnant Mistress is one of my confort reads and I have the original version and the spanish translation). Do you have any idea when it will be published? Now that I know about it, I’m impatient *LOL*
