Green acres is the place to be….

Faaaarm livin’ is the life for me…

One might think being a farmer is a some-what easy thing.

I mean, you are your own boss so you answer to no one but yourself. How bad can that be??

Well, it’s not as easy as one might think.

Farming makes our living. It can make a good living, but it can also break you. One bad year — that’s all it takes.

I knew my DH put up with people from time to time, but bless his heart - this time of year he really has to listen to quite a bit from people that have no clue what they’re talking about. What REALLY pisses me off? When I have to deal with them. :fu I’m not a people person anyway, but I AM nice (whether or not I wanna be) until you give me a reason NOT to be nice.

There was this…dude…that called me last fall and got pretty hateful when asking me to speak to my husband. Getting smart with me when I say “Hello” is not the way to get on my good side and me continue to be nice to you after “Hello”.

Anyway…he called and DH wasn’t here. I tell him this and finally got him off the phone after letting him know that Yes, I’ll have DH call him when he comes in. DH comes in late that night and I pass his message on to him, along with a few choice names for The Dude.

It seems that The Dude is someone that DH has talked to before about a problem that The Dude thinks the DH has caused. This guy and his wife moved down here without checking out what kind of area they were moving into. This is a BIG agricultural area. LOTS of farmers / farming going on here. The Dude has a problem with this obviously. He has moved into a place that is surrounded (ALL 4 SIDES of his house) by farms and unfortunately for him, 4 different farmers work them and my DH is one of them.

Apparently he has issues with farmers spraying their crops. I know there are people that are like this, but really, there is no need to be a complete asshole about it. :rolleyes

My DH waits (and loses some precious damn time because of this) until the wind is blowing AWAY FROM the houses before he’ll spray a farm that is near a house. Because, ya know, that’s what courteous people do. But instead of having the balls about him to confront DH FACE TO FACE…he calls. Then he goes to HIS landlord (also DH’s landlord) and TELLS him (not ask) that there will be NO crops planted around his house again. :whatever

Ummm…yeah, that didn’t sit too well with landlord. Most people don’t like being told what to do…especially with their own stuff. Go figure. Needless to say, The Dude now has a For Sale sign in his front yard. Ah well. :shrug

Ever get behind a tractor on your way to work and cuss a blue streak because of it?? Well, guess what?!

They are working too and you trying to pass them will only cause you AND THEM to get hurt / killed. That tractor may be big, but the driver can still be killed if it wrecks. I’d like to keep him a while longer (as I’m sure other farmer’s wives do too), so my advice would be…. leave a little earlier for work or take another route. Does this mean I’m little Ms. Happy Go Lucky when I get behind one? Nope, but I’m not acting like some damn idiot either by trying to pass them. I wait til they get to a spot where they can pull over (which is what the majority of them are looking for when they see you behind them anyway — really…patience IS a virtue) first.

My darling kids and the stupid phone ringing off the hook have side-tracked me enough that I can’t remember what was next on my list. I’ll have to do a part 2 if it comes to me because right now I’m pooped.

Until next time…
