Westerns, Cowboys…Oh My!

Since yesterday was my birthday, I took some time off and blog-hopped.

Melissa Schroeder had a great author day (our first ever) on the Genesis Blog, so I spent time off and on there. And Beth Willamson blogged about “Why I love cowboys and no, the western ISN’T dead!” over at the Writers Across Time blog (where I won a set of her gorgeous bookmarks! Yay Me!!). I also spent the day on Sybil’s blog when she had guest author Maureen McKade.

All of these posts got me to thinking (which can be a very dangerous thing as most of you know ). I love westerns. I will read a western over a contemporary a lot of times, but clueless me didn’t know that people were saying westerns are dead. LOL Where have I been?

A lot of the books I read (not just the westerns) are books that I’ve bought and have had for quite a while. While I DO still buy books…it’s been a while since I have. So I’m not real sure what, exactly, I’d have to choose from at my bookstore. I HOPE they have Maureen’s books because after looking at her site….I want them! And had PLANNED on going to the bookstore Friday…but that so didn’t work out. Dammit.

Why do I love westerns? I’m not completely sure what “exactly” the draw of them is for me, to be honest. In a time where it only takes minutes to go miles by car…reading about it taking days by horseback…that is fascinating to me. The way they had to cook fascinates me. Hell, the way they had to WORK fascinates me. I’ve even read parts of stories (those parts only LOL) to my kids just so they’d see how “good” they have it now. In a time where there were no tv’s, computers, cars…hell, TOILETS LOL, my kids soooooo wouldn’t make it. I’m not too sure about myself either. LOL

And then there’s the cowboys. Drool, drool. I mean, really, is there anything sexier? Other than a farmer that is. *bg* I can’t think of anything.
