It’s That Time of Year Again

School is back in session. Joy, joy, fun, fun.

I’ve bitched numerous times about our school system, and will probably do it a lot more than I have in the past. So, if you are reading this and don’t like it…move on please.

This year, as they said they would, the coke machines were removed from the school. No, scratch that. The coke machines were moved from the “coke machine room” into the teacher’s lounge.

School has been back in session for 2 weeks now, but they’ve yet to start selling their “healthy” snacks for break-time. I’ve asked my DD every day and apparently they have told the kids that the snacks have been ordered, but they haven’t arrived yet. They’ve known since LAST year that they were going to do this, yet now school is back in session and they STILL haven’t got the snacks for the kids?!?! F***ing morons.

Also, and I love this…We can still (*shock* *gasp*) send our kid’s lunch to school, but we CANNOT send carbonated drinks in their lunch box. Ummmm…

So let me get this straight…

We send our kids to school (you know, the school that our tax dollars go to) with a lunch that we have packed for them, but yet we are not allowed to send our kids a carbonated drink that we (NOT the damn school) have bought.

Now is wrong with that picture?!?! WTF do they think they are?!?

It’s not that I’m all fired up to send a coke to school with my kids. But we CAN send KoolAid and that’s LOADED with sugar. It’s stupid and wrong on so many F***ing levels it ain’t EVEN funny.

Think of it this way…

I can’t stand rootbeer. HATE it with a passion and would rather thirst to death than drink it. That’s how my youngest is by orange juice and milk. I’ve tried since she was a baby with both, but as soon as she gave up the bottle (the ONLY way she would drink milk)…that was the last of her milk days unless it’s in cereal. Orange juice…she’ll sip on it a couple of times…then that’s it. She don’t want it and she won’t be forced to drink it come hell or high water. The only thing she WILL drink that’s “healthy” is water. So guess what I sent with her luch the other day? Only for her to bring her lunch bag home with a full thermos? I asked if she drank ANY of it with her lunch and she said “yeah…some of it”.

Since I do send a thermos, I COULD put her a coke, sprite…anything at all she wanted in there, but if the “aid” (aid…what a F***ing joke) catches her, the aid will say something to her and embarrass the shit out of her. Then I’ll be up at the school like stink on shit on that *aid*, and that just makes it worse for my child.

So WTF do you do? Do you sit and worry about your child trying to choke down her lunch without drinking SOMETHING or do you send what you KNOW she’ll drink and take a chance on them making it hard for her in school?

My kids are FAR from being over-weight. I send them to school (like everyone else does) to learn. Teachers are the first to say that manners and such should be taught at home. That it’s not their job to do that. I TOTALLY agree with this! Totally. But a healthy eating habit and lifestyle should be taught at home too and the choice of that and what we feed our kids should NOT be the business of the school systems.

I don’t control what they serve at lunch (sadly). I mean really, if I did, they’d have what we used to have…GOOD food. We had MEAT AND VEGETABLES, not bologna sandwiches and crispitos. So they can serve a bologna sandwich for lunch but we can’t send carbonated drinks with the lunch we send, cuz, ya know…that shit is bad for you. Whatever.

Oh…and to mention this stuff at meetings? Mention ANYTHING at all at meetings? Not even. We (the parents) saw right quick that our opinion on things don’t mean shit at the school. They (the principal and teachers) are gonna do whatever the hell they wanna do….no matter what the parent’s opinions are.

The price of lunch keeps going up and the quality of food they serve keeps going down.

That’s pathetic.
