Rants and More Rants

Life has been hectic lately. With Missy away from Genesis for a while (*hugs* to you girlfriend), that part of life is beyond hectic. At first I freaked, I panicked, my body screwed with me in different ways because of the stress, but now, at this moment, I think it’s kinda-sorta settlin’ down. I’m finally (I hope) getting some kind of *system* going. Watch it fall apart now that I’ve said that.
Trying to get over a cold that I came down with last Saturday. It kept me from going to see Missy
(I’ll get there soon, girlie), and according to the doctor, it could be the reason my ankles and feet have started swelling.
I’ve never heard of that, but I’m not real sure what else it could be. Believe it or not,
even with the extra workload, I’m not sitting at the computer all the time. With kids, I’m up moving around quite a bit. I cleaned all day on Saturday (when the swelling started…and the cold too), so I wasn’t on the computer hardly at all, therefore can’t blame the swelling on sitting a lot. So, I dunno. My blood pressure is normal and the only thing wrong with me right now is this dang cold. Ah well, it’ll work out I guess.
***Disclaimer about the rant following this*** When I rant about the *schools*, I am talking about the schools that I know. Those that my kids go to and all those in my area (the ones I went to and family members that have kids in these schools).
My mother called me yesterday to tell me what my nephew’s teacher did. Well, not his teacher, but the teacher’s *aid* that was in the class with her. School lets out at 3:00pm. Parents that pick up their kids were standing there in the hall waiting for their child. Well, after waiting and waiting and waiting, and waiting some more, one of the parents opens the door. She was told right quick (by the aid) that the kids didn’t clean up around their desk, therefore they were staying after class for 15 minutes. I can’t remember everything that was said, but this part stuck out for me…
Parent (after being told she wasn’t getting her child until the time they (the aid) said the kids could go): I’m his MOTHER!
Teacher: Well I’m his TEACHER!
Ummmmm…..
What is wrong with this picture? Hmmmmm?
That’s as bad as my brother going to the middle school to get his child early a couple of years ago. We were expecting severe storms, so he went to get her. Now where we live, if they call for SEVERE storms, your better have a plan to take cover…and quick. Anyway, he goes to get her…only to be told he can’t take her. Again
They proceed to tell him that she’s THEIR responsibility and they couldn’t let her leave because it was gonna storm. He informs them that yeah, he WILL get her…he’s her daddy and *their responsibility* ceases the minute he walks out that door with her. They could either call her to the office, or he was going to the classroom, but either way - she was leaving with him.
And what is up with so many aids now anyway? When I was in school, we didn’t have aids. Our teachers ate lunch WITH us…as in…they were in the caffeteria WITH us. THEY were responsible for us…not an aid. The teacher went outside with us. More times than not, they would play with us too…softball, kickball, soccer, basketball..etc. Not an aid (which at the school my child goes to…the aids don’t play with the kids. They sit in the shade and *watch* the kids. *snort* As if. They were watching so well, my child got bit by a damn dog on the playground.)
I asked one time why the teachers didn’t go outside with the kids and I was told, by the principal, that was the teacher’s breaktime. Ummmmm
Breaktime?!?! Let’s see…they go outside around 2:15 and stay out there until 2:40. School lets out at 3:00. They are getting ready to end their day at work (I realize some teachers stay after, but since I’ve been known to drive by that school around 4:00 and the lot be EMPTY…well…….), but they need a break at this time? My teachers never got that, so why is it needed now?
I’m in no way, shape, form or fashion saying teaching is easy. It’s not. Far from it. I’m just wondering what the difference is from then and now? They get a 30 minute break at lunch (aids are with kids in caffeteria…NOT ONE teacher is in there), 30 minutes in the morning when the kids go outside and another 30 minute break in the afternoon while kids are outside. Again, my teachers didn’t get that.
And I could easily go off on the rant about kids being allowed so many *un-excused* absenses before the parents are called and could be fined. This is just hilarious to me. Why? Because I could yank my kids out of school and homeschool them LEGALLY with NO problem at all. So they are going to tell us parents that we will be fined if our kids miss however many days without a doctor’s excuse? Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeze.
Or the fact that if you go over those days — your child loses his/her breaktime. Now THAT just plain pisses me off! Kids have to depend on the parents to get them to school. If that parent lets the child miss school, for whatever reason, and doesn’t take them to the doctor, then it’s an un-excused absense. But yet, they’re gonna punish the CHILD for this? Where is the logic in that? That makes NO sense whatsoever. Stupid twits.
By the way, the above hasn’t happend to my child…yet. I WISH they would call me and say something because I’ve got an earfull waiting for them when they do. Maybe that’s why they haven’t - because I WANT them to.
Do I take my child to the doctor every time they miss school? Nope. Do my kids get sick a lot in the winter? Yep. But methinks if those that send their kids to school sick would stop that shit…it would make a difference for my kids and a whole lot of other kids as well. But we gotta have that perfect attendence dont’cha know?
Whatever.
