Shi’s waiting for my rant

So I’ll give her a rant. It won’t be the one I was originally gonna give. To be honest, I can’t remember what that was about.

Anyway…

My question (rant, peeve, whatever)…Is it too much to ask to be able to go through life with as little pain as possible? I mean physical pain here. I hurt. I’m so damn sick and tired of hurting.

Hello, I’m Cindy and I’m a tooth grinder. I’ve been to the dentist, he gave me a mouth guard. Scratch that…I BOUGHT a mouth guard from there…$130 tyvm! He says no TMJ. Fine, ok. That doesn’t help my pain here doc. Mouth guards do not stop you from grinding your teeth…they just keep your teeth from actually rubbing together so you can sharpen them into fine points and bite the hell outta your husband when he hits you in the middle of the night for keeping him awake. Now that’s a run-on sentence! Whew.

But no, mouth guards are no help. At least not for me. They just let my husband get some sleep.

I had to have a wisdom tooth cut out a couple of years ago, so my dentist sends me to an oral surgeon. I ask the oral surgeon while I’m there about TMJ. After telling him my symptoms and about my daily headaches (we’re talking side of face, around ears and top of head here) he says “Yep, you got TMJ”. Well duh? Ya think?

I ask what I can do about it, because me and pain…we don’t get along. He says “wear a mouth guard”. I do believe if I have one more person to tell me to wear a friggin’ mouth guard, I’m gonna go balistic.

With the things we can do today in 2005, is there not some kind of contraption out there that will keep you from grinding your teeth?!?

Okay, so I just found your blog so this is a late post.

Have you tried an NTI-TSS device? My mouthguard helps my clenching, so I haven’t looked into anything further. I just know I came across it while researching teeth clenching. I even almost popped out a filling (had to replace it), it was so bad. Luckily my mouthguard works.

From what I can see, there really isn’t anything that will completely fix TMJ or bruxism that doesn’t involve a helluva lot of work and money. And pain.

    Hi Nicole!

No, I haven’t tried that. Will definitely have to check into it. Thanks for letting me know.

And I agree, from everything I’ve found on TMJ and bruxism…pain, money and work.

That’s enough to make you clench more just thinking about it. LOL

    Cindy
