Life Down on the Farm

I recently posted this on a messageboard that I’m on. Thought I’d post it here too.

We, as most know, have chickens. Two are roosters. Up until yesterday we haven’t had any problems with these chickens or the roosters.

Yesterday my 4 y/o comes in bawling and saying that Checkers (one of the roosters…the biggest) attacked her. So DH tells her to kick him and he’ll stop. LOL

My oldest then comes in with a shocked look on her face and said Checkers attacked her too. DH tells her the same thing.

Well today, Checkers attacks again and I see it, so I make the girls go inside and I have DH come outside to help me feed and water the chickens and the lil…uh..well…my new nickname for the rooster isn’t nice. (starts with an F and rhymes with sucker )

DH walks into the chicken house and Checkers is ready for him. Rooster tries to attack, Dh proceeds to knock the hell outta the lil…uh…rooster. Rooster bristles and goes back for more only to be knocked back again. I’m standing there cheering him on “Hit the bastard again! He attacked my babies! Hit the lil…uh…rooster!”

Checkers eyeballs DH, turns around and walks out into the pen. DH and I get them some fresh water and take it back into the chicken house. Checkers walks out when DH walks in. *snicker*

My girls come back outside and DH proceeds to tell them…”You HAVE to get your bluff in on him or he’s gonna keep going at you. Now I’m not saying for you to try and knock him into next week, but get your bluff in.”

I’m standing there thinking “You did!” and “I’d like to knock the lil…uh…rooster into more than just next week. Can you say supper?”

Later on…

I’m drying my 9 y/o’s hair and she starts talking about the rooster again. She tells me…

“Yesterday, when Checkers attacked me, he was on one of the black chickens and he was peckin’ her on the head. I got him off of her and pushed her along to get her out of his way and then he attacked me!” While telling this she has a look on her face.

Then my darling child looks at me so innocently and says…”I guess I ruined their playtime so, I guess he got mad”

And of course, while she’s telling me this, I’m and and finally .
